speaking of limited time....
why can't we have McRibs all year 'round??
I mean in the off season the streets are full of McRib junkies just wandering aimlessly willing to sell their mother for just one more sauce dripping morsel. Crime rates go up, black markets arise in the backs of Burger Kings and Jack in the Box's where employees sell sloppy immitations made of who knows what for prices almost 5 times as much as the original street price. I was thinking that if the government would just step in and regulate McDonalds to ensure that a steady supply is available all year round, the world would be a much hapier place.
What are your thoughts??

I feel that is simply a marketing and supply ploy... in larger restaurants... you'll notice that ribs prices in general say something along the lines of Please Inquire as for some reason the source of ribs are "seasonal"... yeah, right... they just know people love them so and want to try and regulate the output somehow... picture the image I did recently of the baby eating... well, those that seen it know the rest of that one. Those are my thoughts sir. Getting it stuck to us by the establishment once again. Next.

SpideyGeek How many licks does it take *you* to get to the center of a Tootsie pop?
answer: well, it takes me a total of 3... ooonneeee, twwwoooooo, threeeeee... CRUNCH!!!
~ColdStone What is your greatest professional acheivement? personal?
answer: Good question(s)... hmmm... how to respond to this... I'll give the nondescript and then the to date answers...
I feel we haven't as a group met our greatest personal achievements. (nondescript answer and safe answer)
Now, as a total team effort, I feel that Bubba number 7 was to date as it's one of the only projects we all did as a team together (darn freelance work in the way... lol)
Me personally, I would have to say the new HOPE: New Orleans Hurricane Katrina Relief book through Ronin Studios.
It is truly awe inspiring the effect that the hurricane had on people not only in that area but around the country and then follow that up with the response of those that wanted and eventually did participate in this endeavor... truly humbling and definitely one of my proud moments in this career.
On a selfish note, I'm honored to have been chosen as the Asst. Editor/Art Director for the book but am also glad to have contributed the inks and grays to one of the stories as well... keep in mind that I all too well know that this has NOTHING to do with personal gain/exposure and/or profit to anyone particular person involved in the project and I know I can speak for all of them when I say, that we are glad to be part of it.
On a personal note, I feel that when I can get the Christian Comics line up and running through the Cadre Corner channels, I will then be able to say that I have achieved my own personal achievement as that is/was/ and will continue to be my ultimate goal.
Hope that answers properly as to the relevance to the question.
Why "Cadre"? Victor Cabanelas
answer: The name "Cadre" started back in high school... I had created a character by the name of Commander Cadre... showed it to a few kids at school and the next day, one came back calling me "Cadre". I had asked him why he called me that since I had nothing in common with the character or the desire to be part of the military from which I had adopted the name. He went to the teachers desk and pulled out a dictionary... showing me one of the definitions.
Cadre: A person or group of persons trained to be a professional in a specific field
I was stumped to say the least... he had replied, I see that in you man... training to do comics and artwork... becoming a pro. I dismissed it at first but was humbled that he felt that way... and then next thing I know, a few people started calling me that. I went along for a while signing my name Cadre on all my artwork.
This remained the case even through college where my instructors even called me by new pen name "Cadre"... this too, filled me with pride.
Now, as my professional career was indeed starting, I came to the conclusion that any and I do mean any notoriety or status that I could build under that name would have a much more pronounced impact one day... but not from a lone person such as myself. However, I felt that the "group of persons" would be much more impactful as well more appropriate. Many that know me, know that my studio "family" are just that... "family" in my eyes and I will continue to promote, endorse and support them as long as they are in this crazy business.
Thus the Cadre Corner was born as I dedicate our little group as making a spot or "corner" in this instance in this industry in which I love so dearly. It has played a large part in who I am and what I declare as good in this world.
Hope that clarifies a bit.
Again, Jesse is bearing ALL and more than most probably could care about... lol.

color composition and brings attention to the Corner sign...helps make it a bit more whimsical and fun to look at. Also, will be part of an ongoing project I'm working on for web ads and such... the ribbon will play more part in that than shown around here... Why the yellow ribbon in the Cadre Corner logo?

How did the hurricane Katrina relief "Hope" comic book issue do? Is there a sequel coming out? Did your Brother have a good time at the convention? Does he work on comics too?

Do people ever tell you you kinda look like Jesus of Nazareth? (or should I say that you REALLY look like him?). What upcoming monster projects do you have coming up? What does "Cadre" stand for?

It did decently well from what I understand... didn't sell out sadly and I'm working on a way to get my hands on some of the remainder copies to sell to those that missed the show. We are working on a companion book which will follow the release through Diamond. This will have the stories that didn't quite make the first installment due to time restraints or what have you. My brother had a good time from what he tells me... wishes he was there for more of the show as do I of course. He handles the Cadre Corner ebay stuff as well as some of the accounting issues. I've been getting that more and more... its an honor that I don't deserve and I've been contemplating cutting it off after the Christmas seasons are over. I'm hoping to play Jesus at the Church Contata... will let grow out until then at least. Hmmm, monster projects? Illegal Immigrants is still in the works, just awaiting some details as to whom the new penciller will be and such... and who knows what will be in store for the Corner book coming soon in regards to stories I may be working on. Also, I do freelance all the time and may be working on a zombie story soon... still haven't decided yet. As far as the name "Cadre", simply scroll upwards as I explain the whole detailed story behind the name above. Thanks for taking the time. Feel free to register and become part of our posting family here on the Cadre Corner Communique. Do people ever tell you you kinda look like Jesus of Nazareth? How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could read comics?

Easy one... a woodchuck wouldn't bother chucking wood if it could read comics. It would be too busy reading and wouldn't chuck wood due to the time it would take. next... Glad you could find some time Mr. Dale. now go register yourself and make yourself at home...

What made you decide to focus primarily on inking? Do you do any digital inking, or are you more of a purist?

When I was in college, I had aspirations of becoming a penciller like so many other comic fans that had any inkling (no pun intended) of artistic ability as foretold by their peers, family and/or friends. I wanted a piece of that pie that pencillers got as far as fame and notoriety was concerned. This, I can not deny. However, one day, my then roommate and close friend had asked me to ink a sketch that he had pencilled... my first reaction was "no way man... I'm no inker!" Well, he persisted for me to give it a shot... being the type of guy not afraid to experiment a bit with different medias, I accepted his request. I was blown away with the sense of satisfaction and what I could accomplish with ink and pen in hand. That was when I first realized that I wanted to learn so much more about the art of inking. I am still learning everyday as much as I can from those which came before me. I understand so much more now that the inks can add so much more depth, clarity, and sense of completeness to a piece. I was hooked and will continue to strive for excellence. I'm in no way near where I want to be and even have attempted to intern with a few of my respected predecessors but have yet to find one either able or in need of such an assistant. As for the second part of your question sir... I can digitally ink and/or traditionally ink. Which do I prefer? I prefer the feel of the pen/quill/brush... in my hand as I lay the ink upon the paper. However, I do at time blend the two methods and I find that when meeting deadlines, that is the way to go for ultimate feel and expedience. Hope that helps answer those two questions... next... What made you decide to focus primarily on inking? Do you do any digital inking, or are you more of a purist?
