Here's a new idea I came up with. I'm also trying out a slightly different writing style as well.
Anubis; Guardian of the Tomb
In
“Guardian of the Tomb #1”
Written by: William T Taylor
Pg. 1
FULL PAGE TITLES: A jeweled emblem, shaped as a stylized ancient Egyptian eye, dominates the center. The borders of the page are encircled in flames while the interior of the page is ebon black.
NARRATIVE:The gods of old held great power over the living and dead. To gaze upon them was to be consumed in flame.
Now the old ways are but a whisper, the old dynasties in ruins.
However…the dead can be restless…and the gods of old die hard.
Pg. 2
SCENE 1: Night, interior. Tight shot of a glass display case containing the jeweled emblem.
SCENE 2: P.O.V. from the glass display, upward shot. A skylight is visible against the black backdrop of the ceiling. Peering down through the skylight is a black figure. In the foreground, a mix of English and Arabic is labeled – the English portion of the label reads “The Eye of Ra”.
SCENE 3: Extreme close-up of a security camera; in its lens a reflection of the display.
SCENE 4: An overall view of the security camera. A wire trailing around the camera’s support toward the ceiling is shown cut – obviously tampered with.
SCENE 5: The display case, a circular hole in the top with a pair of black-gloved hands reaching in and touching the emblem.
SCENE 6: P.O.V. from the jeweled emblem. The reader gets an angled view of a thief, who hangs from a wire leading up to the skylight, his hands now firmly wrapped around the jeweled emblem in the foreground. He wears a sleek, black outfit that conceals all his features except his eyes. Around his waist is a belt with a slew of thieves’ tools, among them a set of wire clippers and a small hammer.
Pg. 3
SCENE 1: Close-up on the thief’s belt. The small hammer has slipped loose and is falling downward.
SCENE 2: Close-up on the thief’s face, eyes wide.
SCENE 3: The glass display shattering as the small hammer smashes down from above.
SCENE 4: Overall shot of the room. Other display cases holding Egyptian artifacts are visible in the background. The thief, still hanging from the wire upside-down, spies two paunchy guards entering through an archway. One of the guards is drawing a gun from its holster around his waist.
GUARD: “What was that noise? THIEF!”
Pg. 4
SCENE 1: Night, exterior. A wide shot of the roof, with the skylight in mid-background. The thief leaps through an open panel in the skylight with the jeweled emblem under his arm. Behind him the skylight is shattered by several bullets being fired skyward (artist: gunfire, shattering effects).
SCENE 2: Close-up on the thief, holding a grappling gun in his hands (the jeweled emblem still under one arm). It is loaded with a three-pronged hook.
SCENE 3: The two guards, now on the roof. They see the grappling gun tied around a venting pipe with a long line leading out to the ledge of a neighboring building with a considerable gap between the two. The skyline is a mix of contemporary buildings and Islamic architecture, heavily shaded, with starlight above.
SCENE 4: The side of the building. In the upper half is the ledge with one guard visible gazing right panel with a bewildered expression. In the lower half the thief is crouched in the frame of a window – the grappling gun merely a ruse to confound the guards.
Pg. 5
SCENE 1 – WIDE SHOT: Interior. A seedy room with a wooden table, lit from a dangling light. SETH sits at one end of the table while a scrawny, glasses-wearing archeologist, BECKER, sits opposite. Two pairs of guards stand, flanking both.
SETH: “You better not be screwing with me, Englishman.”
BECKER: “I’m not! Seth, I am telling you it is there!”
SETH: “Dying men have told me more convincing arguments than what you’ve presented, Becker.”
“Grave robbing has been a profession quite prevalent in Egypt for five millennia-on now. Men like myself rarely leave a stone unturned.”
SCENE 2: Overall shot of the table. SETH is in the left foreground in a 3/4s pose with back toward reader, lighting up a cigarette. BECKER nervously continues his argument.
SETH: “…particularly large, well-carved stones.”
BECKER: “I don’t argue with what you do, Seth, but you brought me into this for my expertise. I translated those rare Alexandrian scrolls you showed me…and they clearly mentioned this place. It’s a find that could rival Tutankhamen!”
SETH: “Heh. Old King Tut’ was lucky. It was…”
SCENE 3: Close-up of a side view of SETH. SETH is startled, a black-gloved hand reaching from behind him and grabbing his cigarette. AKIL speaks from off panel left.
SETH: “…a matter of time before someone looted…eh?”
AKIL: “I told you I hate it when you smoke.”
SCENE 4: AKIL is revealed, standing behind SETH’S chair, donned in the thief’s outfit, save the mask, which now hangs from his belt. SETH glances back, a proud smirk on his face. One of the guards is visible standing to one side of the panel.
SETH: “Ah, finally Akil! Becker, let me introduce you to my favorite hired jewel connoisseur – Akil Asim Ibn Hashim, or simply Akil.”
SCENE 5: A corner of the room. Two crates, a pile of gold coins, and a mix of Roman and Egyptian artifacts are strewn. The jeweled emblem AKIL stole before is casually tossed into this pile. AKIL, SETH, and BECKER all talk off panel.
AKIL: “I’m a thief. I am honest about what I am.”
SETH: “Ha! The only man not afraid of losing his hands! Becker, amuse Akil about your tale of hidden treasure!”
BECKER: “Well…the scrolls were from the Ptolemaic Dynasty, but they speak of a far, far more ancient tomb…”
