Fenrir; Wolf of Ragnarok
Thor
In
"Wolf of Ragnarok"
Written by: William T Taylor
Pg. 1
SCENE HALF PAGE TITLES: Distant view of a large, frozen mountain peak caught in the grip of a massive snowstorm. Against the backdrop of the heavy gray clouds is the dark shadow of a wolf, one as big as the mountain peak itself. The shadow-wolf is posed as if trying to leap, but a thin chain is visible leading from its neck down to the base of the peak, restraining it to the mountain. Jaws of the shadow-wolf wide open with fangs visible.
NARRATIVE: The world is full of monsters…in our dreams…and our
reality. Sometimes we can enchain the worst and be at peace for a time…
SCENE: Close-up on the end of a silvery chain bolted to the ground, taut and shaking. One of the links in the chain is starting to crack and break with a few flakes of metal chinking off it in the process.
NARRATIVE: …but some can't be forever enchained.
SCENE: Pan of the snowy mountainside with the base of the (now broken) chain to the left half. Toward the right, we can just make out the dark silhouette of THOR amid the snow storm.
NARRATIVE: Those kinds of monsters can only be faced…and conquered.
Pg. 2
SCENE: THOR, long-haired and bearded, dressed in his full war outfit with a fur cloak in addition, kneels before the base of the chain, his hammer in one hand and the other touching the snow before the chain.
Pg. 2 (Continued)
SCENE: Close-up of the base of the chain, THOR'S free hand holding the severed end of the chain in his open palm.
SCENE LONG-SHOT VIEW: In foreground the broken chain and THOR'S hand looms before the reader. Behind it, staring sternly at the chain, THOR contemplates the dire significance of this chain's breaking. In the background the mountainside is still in the amiss of the snow storm…but subtly hidden is the shadowy image of a wolf lurking.
THOR: "Valhalla…I am too late. The beast's shackles are broken, just as prophesized."
SCENE: Tight above shot of THOR, wiping away the snow coating the chain's base, revealing a set of Norse runes engraved into the smooth stone. Among the runes is the distinct image of two wolves; one with a flaming sun in its jaws and the second looming over a familiar hero wielding a war hammer.
THOR: "The wolf that will devour the light of the sun and bring the end of the world is loosed. If what else the Norns told me holds true, then I…"
SCENE: THOR, viewed from behind, suddenly caught by surprise. His eyes begin to glance toward the source of a loud growl emanating toward the right of the panel, out of the reader's sight (artist: have THOR in a 3/4s angle with his face just starting to turn in the reader's direction…superimpose growling effect on right corner of panel).
THOR: "…must…wha…?"
Pg. 3
SCENE FULL PAGE BACK PANNEL: A giant wolf, easily three times larger than THOR himself, leaps at him just as he turns to face it. THOR jerking upright, his hammer clenched firmly in his hand, his fur cloak still swirling in movement. Wolf with fiery, glowing green eyes and fanged jaws open and razor-sharp claws bearing at THOR, thick ripples of muscle visible even beneath its thick blue-white fur. Also, just barely visible amid the fur on its neck is a silver collar with a trailing portion of the chain (artist, superimpose behind wolf and THOR giant roar stretching across width of page).
Pg. 3 (Continued)
SCENE FORE PANNEL LOWER RIGHT: THOR barely manages to side-swipe the giant beast, the fur cloak he was wearing torn and now below the massive paws of the wolf with only a few tatters still around THOR'S neck and fluttering in the air. The wolf, which THOR now names FENRIR, snarling as it tears the cloak apart.
THOR: "FENRIR!"
Pg. 4
SCENE: FENRIR in mid-background, paws still on the fur cloak as the wolf turns its full attention on THOR. FENRIR bearing its fangs at THOR with clenched jaws. THOR, in foreground with back toward reader, grips his hammer with both hands, now fully prepared to take on FENRIR.
FENRIR: "Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…"
THOR: "You won't taste my blood, wolf of destruction, but you shall sample Mjolnir!"
SCENE: THOR swings his hammer in a wide arc, delivering a hard blow to Fenrir's left shoulder. FENRIR'S eyes are clenched tight from the blow with THOR yelling loudly.
THOR: "RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"
SCENE: THOR'S left leg in right foreground (viewed from behind), FENRIR in background against mountainside, starting to get back up from THOR'S first blow against him. FENRIR glares in THOR'S direction, again snarling, eager for retribution.
SCENE: As before, but this time FENRIR is in the foreground with its jaws wrapped around and biting hard into THOR'S calf, saliva from its mouth flying in the air.
SCENE LONG-SHOT VIEW: THOR yelling out in pain with head thrown back, the massive body of FENRIR dominating the lower half of the panel, still clamping down on THOR'S leg (artist, emphasize the frustration in both THOR'S face and FENRIR'S muzzle)
THOR: "AAAAAAGGH!"
