Greetings Everyone, For the past couple months I have been working to get a Fantasy Anthology project off the ground, reading scripts, recruiting artists, holding a contest at Ronin, and putting together an editorial team. With 10 story teams now together (artists, writers, ect.) and Jesse Hansen (Art Director) and Thomas Mauer (Layout Editor) helping out on the editing end of things I feel like things are off to a running start. The Goal: Put together a solid, full-length anthology to pitch to publishers. I am aware that Jesse has talk with some of about a short while ago, but we though a second introduction would be worth while now that things are off the ground. Here is the basic focus we have been working with: With this anthology we are looking to tell different tales, stories that concentrate on individuals, their motivations, and how they get along in fantastic settings. Monsters prowling forests, Lovecraftian-type gods, beautiful women in castles and keeps, hedge mazes and classical sculpture, bumbling servants, mysterious strangers on lonely roads, magic and its repercussions, and actual romance: these are all classic elements we would like put forward with characters being first in mind. And here are a few things we believe we have going for us: 1. Quality Writing - While I had to dig through a large pile, I have gotten some very good stories from unknown writers as well as from some writers you may know. John Schlim (Author of the upcoming Arcana release Dandelion), Jeffrey Loew (Published in Sakura Pakk which is being re-released by Devil’s Due) and Barb Lien-Cooper (Co-Author of Speakeasy’s Half-Dead) have joined as writers among others. As many of you may not be familiar with Barb, here is her Silver Bullet Comics ‘Who’s Who’ entry: “Barbara Lien-Cooper writes the comic GUN STREET GIRL at Panel 2 Panel, was an original founder of Sequential Tart, is the managing editrix of the 2004 Eisner award-winning print magazine COMIC BOOK ARTIST, and was named by Mark Millar (The Authority, Ultimates, Wanted) as one of the three most promising new talents in the next wave of comics writing.” 2. Demand - With the exception of Conan and a few other works there has always been a lack of quality fantasy comics in the mainstream, with those quality books often only running a short time. There is however a large population of Fantasy fans that can be catered too. One way I have started to try and reach this audience has been talking too creators of popular online fantasy settings—a few who have already agreed to have stories set within their worlds. Anthologies are also doing well at the moment, with more seeing print now than in previous years, and more doing well. 3. Talented Artists –I have been lucky enough to have some talented artists join in on the project. Dean Kotz (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y75/agamemnontheghost/chofmepg10.jpg), as well as Randy Kintz (http://rantz.deviantart.com/) and Felton Allen (http://titaniumgorilla.deviantart.com/) from Portal Productions have joined, as well as other unaffiliated artists from Deviant Art that Jesse can speak to the quality of. Here are a couple pages from a story that is set to be included (From John Schlim’s Thistleheart): Page 4 in color: As I mentioned in the beginning I think we are off to a running start. I think that this project has some good opportunities to offer and would make a good project for the creators here at the Cadre Corner. I also think that with the talent here that the project’s changes for success become even higher, as while a running start is great having talented people who are in it for the long-term is important as well, and those are the type of people the Cadre Corner seems to offer. Thanks for the introduction Jesse. I would love to hear people’s thoughts about this. William

There are some very solid concepts here. Stick to it. Takes time to become an overnight sensation.

There are some very solid concepts here. Stick to it. Takes time to become an overnight sensation. Definately! It takes years on average for people to "make it" and that is if you don't waste time or get sidetreked. All you can do is keep working, choose your projects carefully, and don't give up. I feel lucky to have been able to get so many quality people together on this project. Here are a few sketches Dean Kotz, colored by Garry Henderson. The background is just something I threw together.

Seems it is about time for another *bump* to see if there is any interest from Studio members. We currently have 21 teams together, and are looking for another penciler and two colorists. For more details see the second post in this thread. Here another panel from a page illustrated by Randy Kintz
