Conflict:
The wind howled through the mountain valley. It was the first of winter and brought an icy chill to the air. The two combatants stood for many minutes sizing each other up. Kendrak an aspiring knight of an old code and a just might was staring at a murderous foe, Duke Vormier. A foul captain of a band of rouge knights who had destroyed villages and innocent townsfolk. He and his company had terrorized the countryside in the eastern ends of the kingdom of Calandra. His bloodthirsty ways would stop today Kendrak swore under his helm.
Keeping himself calm he drew his sword. The magical weapon rang out as if it had come to life. He knew he had to be true. For Vormier was a far more seasoned warrior than he was, being captain of a company of chaos. Vormier had fought in far more conflicts than Kendrak, but he would not falter for he had a duty to his King and country. He had not come this far through the mountains of the dark spire, through his ranks of evil knights to fail now.
Vormier drew his weapon. An ancient two-handed sword with black and crimson runes etched its blade. He held it up in a mocking salute at the young knight. Kendrak started to move, circling Vormier searching for an opening in his defenses. Vormier stood, not moving, cold in his stance. Waiting. Kendrak closed the distance between them, still looking for an opening.Vormier gave an evil grin under his visor and lunged at Kendrak. He covered the ten feet between the two in blinding speed. His two-handed blade flashing in a high arc with the swiftness of a smaller blade. Kendrak barely got his defense up in time as the two blades rang with massive force. Vormier held him there in the parry for a moment as if to shaken the young knight's resolve, but Kendrak would not falter. Bracing on his back foot with great effort he pushed out of the parry and swung around for an offensive of his own. Vormier parried it easily. He swung again over the head of Kendrak as he spun from under it to the flank of Vormier, coming up with an under handed strike.Vormier was too quick, for he was already in position for another parry. The blades rang out again and again as the they fought on. Everytime Kendrak thought he had an opening it was quickly defended, but the young knight was in great condition and he had plenty of fight left in him. Another parry and he thrust for Vormier. His first true mistake. Vormier feinted to the
side and was quickly at Kendrak's flank. Too short a distance for a sword swing so he sent a chopping gauntlet to face of Kendrak. Not a really damaging blow but it did stun Kendrak long enough for Vormier to get first blood. Kendrak knew he was in trouble. He swung around to deflect the blow but was out of position and only got part of the blade, the rest of the ancient
two-handed sword tore into Kendrak's shoulder.Tearing off the mailed shoulder piece of his armor, Kendrak gritted his teeth in pain, but did not cry out. He pressed on and swung around for his next defensive. He was too slow.
He has fought orcs, ogres and dispatched all of Vormier's twisted knights. The Captain of legions of chaos was a nightmare of fury. He was just too much for Kendrak. Vormier pressed on the young knight, another sword swing and then a feint and Vormier had another opening. His sword slashed across Kendrk's leg tearing through the mailed grieve. Battered and beaten Kendrak still found the strength to raise his sword in defense once again. Barely deflecting another flurry of blows Kendrak found himself on one knee. There he found a mailed boot to his chest driving him to the ground. Trying to rise again he could not for Vormier had his sword at his neck, "You have fought valiantly Knight, but like all that has come before me you shall die." Raising his sword high above his head with still blinding speed he brought the blade down upon the young defenseless knight. CLANG!! Just before the moment of impact the sword met with another. To the side standing there was a figure in dark armor. "You shall not have this one's life today tyrant." The two blades sang as Vormier slide out of the parry and backed a few paces to stand and view this new combatant. "He will die on this day as shall you for interfering here."
Kendrak struggled to his feet and stood beside the dark stranger. A warrior he had met on a journey a year before. Ivanoff Darkfury was his name. Not an evil man, just a man with a shaded past.
"So I guess I owe you one now." Kendrak said
"This will better be discussed after we fell this one."
"Then let's finish this."
